Assembly Instructions

This section provides step-by-step instructions for assembling the LAP device. Each component must be mounted carefully to ensure stable operation and prevent damage. Follow the sequence to correctly install mechanical parts and connect cables.

Mount the Lower Part

Attach the lower part to the edge of a desk using the built-in clamping knobs.

Attach the Upper Part

Carefully align and attach the upper part to the lower part, ensuring that no cables are pinched. Use four M8x12 bolts to secure the parts together.

Attach the Glass Pane

Use microfiber cloths to clean and handle the glass. Slide the plastic holder onto the glass pane, aligning both bolt openings. Use two clamping knobs to mount the glass pane with holder to the metal bracket on the frame.

Connect the Cables

ℹ️ Note: The LAP device is powered directly via USB 3.x and requires no additional power source under standard operating conditions.

  • Connect the USB cable from the lower profile camera to the USB hub. The order of USB connections is not important.

  • Connect the USB cables from the upper profile and photo cameras to the USB hub. Don't forget to connect the USB cables on the camera side as well.

  • Make sure the USB cable from the control unit is connected to the USB hub.

  • Connect the main USB cable from the upper side of the USB hub to a USB 3.0 or higher port on your computer.

LAP Connections

  • Plug in the 4-pin round laser connectors to the control unit. Note that there is a distinction between the upper and lower connector, which is marked on the control unit.

  • Plug in the 3-pin round LED connector to the control unit.

  • Connect the foot switch to the lowermost connector on the control unit (optional).

Remove Protective Caps

Before operation, remove all five protective caps: those from the upper and lower profile cameras, the photo camera, and the upper and lower laser projectors.

LAP Caps

ℹ️ Note: Protective caps for the laser projectors are included only with newer LAP systems.

Optional: Mount the USB Protection Kit

The USB protection kit is designed to protect the USB connectors from mechanical damage, impact, or breakage. The kit includes three parts - upper, lower, and color. These are labeled to indicate placement at their respective cameras.

For each camera, place the protector next to the camera holder. From the opposite side, insert and screw in two M3x35 screws through the holder. The screws should be tightened gently - just enough to hold the parts securely.

Connection Troubleshooting

Try these steps if you're having trouble connecting the device to the computer or running profile or photo acquisition.

  • Unplug and reconnect the USB cables from both the USB hub and the cameras.

  • Ensure you are using a USB 3.0 port on your computer (marked with "SS" for SuperSpeed).

  • Make sure the computer is connected to a power outlet.

  • Try different USB ports.

  • If possible, connect the LAP without the provided USB extension cable.
