Lighting
Use the built-in light (Lamp) or any external light source to illuminate the sample. Side lighting can be particularly effective for incised decoration, casting shadows that enhance surface relief.

Setting White Balance
- Place white paper on the glass.
- Adjust exposure until the background appears gray in the live view - saturated white indicates overexposure.
- Set white balance using Auto WB.

Positioning the Sample
To help the software separate the sample from the background, use a white background for dark samples and a black background for light ones. Basic paper backgrounds are included with the device.
- Place the background paper on the glass and position the sample on top.
- Use props such as foam blocks or the included helping hands to support the sample.

Hardware Settings
The camera lens allows manual adjustment of focus and aperture directly on the lens body. Loosen the locking screw, rotate the lens ring to the desired position, and retighten it. If you have a device with High-Resolution Photo Addon see this

💡 Tip: A smaller aperture increases depth of field, useful when the sample surface is uneven. Do not close the aperture beyond f/8 - optical quality degrades at smaller apertures.
ℹ️ Note: If your LAP has the High-Resolution Photo Addon, see Focusing the Camera for lens adjustment instructions.
Software Settings
- Define a region to be captured using Reset (
) and Crop.
- Adjust Threshold to define the masked area.
- The green outline indicates the separation mask boundary between drawing and background.
- Use Reduce Resolution to reduce the file size of captured snapshots.
- Use Auto Smooth to further improve the mask boundary line.
ℹ️ Note: If the background separation threshold cannot be set precisely, it can be adjusted manually in Trace mode. See Trace Mode for details.

After Capture
- Drag and rotate the photo into position
- Use Grid (
) and Scale (
) for accurate sizing
ℹ️ Note: The photo enters the drawing at an approximate scale. Use a profile from Profiling mode as a reference for precise alignment with the Scale tool - shapes captured using laser profiling are always in scale.
